Love What Matters - Embracing True Identity in Christ

god identity love May 15, 2024

In July 2023, I heard a sermon that still resonates with me today. Its teachings are timeless, a reminder of what truly matters in our faith and work.

  1. Guard Your Focus: The world offers many distractions that can pull us away from God. As business leaders, it's easy to get caught up in worldly success, forgetting where our ultimate allegiance should lie.
  2. Love God Wholeheartedly: What matters most isn't our professional achievements or social status, but our relationship with God. Make a conscious decision every day to love Him above all else. This love will guide your actions and decisions in ways that align with His will.
  3. Find Your Identity in God: In a world that pushes us to find identity in our jobs, possessions, or titles, remember that our true identity is found in Christ. This foundational truth gives us the courage to stand firm in our beliefs, even in a competitive business environment.
  4. Stand Firm in Your Faith: There's always going to be the pressure to conform, to not "rock the boat" in our business practices. However, compromising our values for the sake of convenience or acceptance can lead us to dishonor God. We must stand firm in our faith, making sure that our actions reflect our beliefs.

Today's Challenge: I encourage you, whether you're an entrepreneur or not, to reevaluate your priorities. Shift your cravings from worldly desires to a deeper connection with Christ. Remember, you're not alone in this journey—the Holy Spirit is your Helper, guiding and empowering you to make choices that honor God.

Reflect on 1 John 2:15-17 (NASB1995), which reminds us,

"15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever."

Let's commit to loving what truly matters, God. When we align our desires with God's, everything else indeed falls into place.
